HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Goodbye 2016, hello 2017.
New year, new me? Ithink not. Let’s try ‘new year, better me.’
Here we are five days into the new year, have you asked yourself what exactly it is that you want to change and if so, what can be done to accomplish it and better yourself? First things first, ask yourself what do you want tosee differently this year? What must be done to make you a better woman/man than you were a few days ago? What does 2017 mean to you? Have you actuallymade a resolution and set goals for yourself?
For me, 2017 is all about growing– personally and professionally. I’ve set quite a few goals for myself but I’d say my biggest goal isto stepout of my comfort zone and to try different things. It’s nice to find comfort in things and people, but at some point they begin to block your blessings. I mean, how do you expect to grow and learn if you continue to stay in the same place?
Creating a resolution isn’t the hard part,it’s sticking to it and actually implementing the change. I’ve never made a New Year’s resolution in my life, and even now I wouldn’t call these resolutions, here are a few goals I’ve set for myself:
Remain focused and positive
Pray more
Complain less
Reflect more
Make Dean’s list again
Discuss less
Workout and get a booty
FINISH WHAT I STARTED
These aren’t all of the goals I want toaccomplish this year, just the ones I’m willing to share. As mentioned earlier, making the resolution isn’t the hard part, it’s sticking to it. I’ve also come up with a few helpful tips that will hopefully keep you on track while accomplishing your goals.
BE REALISTIC- Start off small, write out a list of ALL your goals and start working towards the smaller goals. Work your way up, don’t move backwards. Take baby steps rather than diving in head first.
SHARE SHARE SHARE- If you need an extra push, tell someone! What better way to accomplish your goals than to have a support system of friends and family helping you every step of way? Keep in mind not everyone has your best interest so be cautious of who you tell your business to.
TAKE YOUR TIME- Change doesn’t happen overnight. Be patient, take your time. Also don’t compare your progress with someone else. Move on your own time, remember the only person you’re in competition with is YOURSELF.
TREAT YOURSELF– Reward yourself from time to time. You didn’t lose your temper today at work? You made an A on your Bio Chem exam? You lost six pounds? Whatever the case may be, if you see the progress you’re making, reward yourself. Go to the spa, buy some makeup or a new outfit. You deserve it.
