Happy first day of summer!
Though we've been experiencing heat for weeks now, today marks the official first day of summer. Summer is all about relaxing and enjoying yourself and the company around you. Some people take this time to travel and explore, while others spend their time working, winding down or partying. With most of us being recent college graduates, I'm sure we can all say that this summer will be slightly different from our past summers. For most, this summer is all about securing a bag, running up a check, and most importantly taking care of yourself-- mentally, physically and emotionally. And while securing a bag is everyone's main focus, mine necessarily isn't.
Of course everyone wants to make money, but people get so wrapped up in it that they forget to enjoy themselves and the company around them. To me, the most important thing about summer is growth. One of the most important things I can't stress enough about summer is finding yourself and peace. Stepping outside of your comfort zone and trying new things. Here are a few things to do to make your summer one for the books all while maintaining your health and finding your peace!
Go hiking/camping- What better way to step out of your comfort zone than try something new. If nature isn't your thing, this will really test your patience and challenge you in ways you didn't even know were possible. Get a group of friends together and go off to enjoy what mother nature has to offer.
Exercise- Exercising helps relieve stress and most importantly keeps you in tip top shape. Exercising is the key to a healthy lifestyle, it goes hand and hand with preventing diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure. It can be hard to commit but something as simple and little as a daily 30 minute walk is an easy start and will pay off in the long run.
Read- I'm aware most people in our generation 'hate reading' but hey, you're reading this so you can't hate it that much right? In my opinion, reading is one of the most peaceful past times. It also helps expand your mind and challenge your way of thinking. Find a genre that interest you, and set aside some time to read--even if its only 30 minutes a day.
Make a bucket list- Jot down a list of all the things you want to accomplish this summer and get to it. No better way of chasing after your dreams and making them come true than speaking them into existence.
Get involved with art- Try hitting up your local museums, gardens, or galleries and see what fine art they have to offer. If you're having trouble finding where to start, try going online to your city's official website. I'm sure they'll have plenty of places in mind.
Surround yourself with good vibes and positive energy- You can't expect to grow when you're surrounded by negative energy and weird vibes. It's okay to distance yourself from people in order to get to where you want to be in life
As we are all transitioning into being adults, it will be a little harder to find time to do these things but we must remember; adults need to have fun every once and a while too. Making money is important, but don't get lost in that idea. Remember to take some time to relax and wind down. Get together with your friends and family and enjoy the days you can before they start to shorten.
